My name is Crystal, and I am the founder of All Is Well—a practical herbalist, master herbalist, hunter, gatherer, and medicine woman whose roots run deep in the North. I am from Treaty 8 territory and a proud member of the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation. I currently reside on Treaty 6 territory in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
I was raised on my family's trap line on Richardson Lake in the Peace Athabasca Delta, Alberta, one of the most remote and beautiful places in the province. At the age of four, my parents had to move us to "town", Fort Chipewyan, Alberta so I could attend school, but the trap line was always home. Our community is completely isolated. There are no roads connecting us to the outside world—we traveled by winter road when the ice was safe, or by boat throughout the summer months.
My earliest memories are of watching my grandparents, parents, and Elders harvest from Mother Earth. They gathered medicines, berries, roots, plants, fish, birds, and wild game. They preserved food for the seasons ahead and treated the land with respect, gratitude, and care. From a very young age, I learned that everything the land provides is precious because it sustains life.
At the time, I didn't realize how extraordinary that knowledge was. It was simply the way we lived.
As a young adult I began working in the Oil Sands in Fort McMurray, Alberta. Always in male dominated industries and did well for myself, but it was a place of inequality both in my work and pay. I was never treated equally or paid fairly compared to my male counterparts for the exact same work. Not to mention the inappropriate behavior that I had to endure from fellow employees and employers. However everything changed when I was expecting my second child. After my first birth, I knew I wanted a different experience and began searching for a doula. That search led me to the Wild Rose College of Natural Healing. I enrolled in what I thought would be a single course, and it sparked something in me that changed the course of my life.
I completed a four-year diploma program in just under three years. I first graduated as a Practical Herbalist, then continued my studies and earned my Master Herbalist diploma. Along the way, I had the privilege of studying under respected herbalists including Dr. Terry Willard and Blaine Andrusek. (They both will never know the impact they made on my life). I hold certifications in Iridology, Herbology, TCM, Nutrition, Medicinal Mushrooms, Cannabis for Health Care, Fermentation and Aromatherapy.
For more then a decade, I had the privilege of running my own clinical herbal practice called Inspired by Nature, walking alongside people on their wellness journeys and creating individualized herbal protocols to support their unique health concerns. Those years deepened by understanding of plant medicine and taught me that healing is never a one-size-fits-all, it begins with listening, connection and respect for each persons story.
After over 10 years in in clinical practice, I felt a new calling. I wanted to create something that could reach beyond the walls of a clinic and bring herbal medicine into peoples homes in a meaningful approachable way. That calling became ALL is Well - a new chapter where I can share my handcrafted remedies, herbal education and the wisdom I've gathered through both clinical experience and the traditional teachings that have guided me since childhood.
My education opened the door to herbal traditions from around the world. I studied Traditional Chinese Medicine, anatomy, physiology, herbal ideology, plant identification and the art of formulating plant medicine. While formal education gave me language and credentials that people recognized, it also helped me realize something much deeper: I had been learning medicine my entire life from the land and from my people.
For a long time, I introduced myself as a Master Herbalist because formal credentials were often more readily accepted than calling myself a medicine woman. Today, I honor both. One represents years of dedicated study; the other represents generations of knowledge, relationship, and responsibility passed down through my family and my culture and the land.
I spent many years returning to the trap line after moving away. I was taught that women were the gatherers, and as a little girl I remember feeling left behind when my dad went hunting. Eventually, I became a hunter too. Today, I am both a hunter and a gatherer. That balance has become a part of who I am.
The land continues to be my greatest teacher. It keeps me grounded, reminds me where I come from, and guides how I create every remedy at All Is Well.
There was a time in my life when I was made to feel ashamed of where I came from and who I was. Today, I stand firmly in my roots. I carry my humble beginnings with pride, I honor the wisdom of my Elders, and I embrace the woman I have become.
All Is Well is more than a herbal company. It is a reflection of my journey—a place where traditional plant wisdom, handcrafted remedies, and meaningful ritual come together to help others reconnect with nature and with themselves.
